I’ve been designing, building, and shipping digital products for over 20 years. During the past 20 years my work has been focused on making apps feel simple, useful, and enjoyable to use. I’ve mainly focused on designing and buildi… ## Posts - [Trying to find the time](https://dancounsell.com/trying-to-find-the-time.md) - It’s not like I have a lot of free time. I really don’t. Between work, family, exercise, and “life admin”, it feels like I never get a moment to day dream or switch my brain off for a bit. I’m certainly never bored. Not like when I was younger. Running your own business means there’s always somethi… - [WWDC 2026, and the return of macOS](https://dancounsell.com/wwdc-2026-and-the-return-of-macos.md) - I first attended WWDC in 2009, the year of Snow Leopard. The last time I went was in 2015, when El Capitan was introduced. I have very fond memories of every WWDC I attended. Meeting developers from all over the world, attending community events and parties, and spending a week immersed in the Appl… - [Every app I have installed on my Mac](https://dancounsell.com/every-app-i-have-installed-on-my-mac.md) - I've always enjoyed reading lists of what apps people use on their Macs, especially the workflows they've built around them, so I thought it was about time I put together my own list. I've tried to make this a fairly comprehensive run-through of every Mac app I use daily, or at the very least weekl… - [Buying a Commodore Amiga 30 years later](https://dancounsell.com/buying-a-commodore-amiga-30-years-later.md) - As a kid, we had an Atari ST at home, but I routinely used to go to my friend's house, and we'd play for hours on the latest Amiga games. I'm guessing this was the mid to late 80s. That's around 30 years ago. Yikes! A few months ago I watched From Bedroom to Billions, and last year I watched a whol… - [Think before you grow your business](https://dancounsell.com/think-before-you-grow-your-business.md) - When you say you run your own company, people inevitably end up asking how many staff you have. The higher the number, the more impressed people seem to be. I totally get it. I fell into the trap of thinking this way, bigger must be better. I really thought for Realmac Software to be classed as a s… - [What to do when an employee quits](https://dancounsell.com/what-to-do-when-an-employee-quits.md) - I was never qualified to interview or hire people. I’m not even sure there is a qualification for it. I never wanted the responsibility of managing people. I never wanted to be a boss. I was in my early 20s and working out of my spare room. Eventually, the company started to make enough revenue to… - [The best video game documentaries](https://dancounsell.com/the-best-video-game-documentaries.md) - Over the last few years I've rediscovered my love of old video games. It all started when I stumbled across people building and playing MAME arcade cabinets on YouTube. These things are essentially PCs running an emulator inside something that looks and feels like a classic arcade machine. The best… - [Building a Hackintosh Pro](https://dancounsell.com/building-a-hackintosh-pro.md) - If Apple built a compact, upgradeable tower that could house one or two full-size GPUs, I'd have bought it without hesitation. Sadly, that machine doesn't exist. There's no doubt that Apple has a refresh for the desktop market in the works. I just don't know if it's going to be enough to satisfy th… - [Removing distractions revisited](https://dancounsell.com/removing-distractions-revisited.md) - Late last year, I was inspired to try and get back some focus and clarity in my life. So I wrote an article called Removing distractions. It's now six months on, and my life has changed because of it, but I have a confession to make. I fell back into bad habits. After around 4 months, Twitter found… - [Removing distractions](https://dancounsell.com/removing-distractions.md) - A while ago I read an article on living a year with a distraction-free iPhone. I laughed when I read the title. This guy must be crazy, I thought to myself. However, after reading the article, I felt like maybe I was crazy and this guy was actually on to something. It's fair to say I was inspired,… ## Optional - [RSS Feed](https://dancounsell.com/rss/) - [Sitemap](https://dancounsell.com/sitemap.xml) - [Full content of pages and posts](https://dancounsell.com/llms-full.txt)
